The Challenge

Deep-sea communication systems have long been inadequate, especially when it comes to timely troubleshooting and equipment repairs on vessels. Shipping companies often face high costs due to delays, miscommunication, and the need to fly engineers to remote vessels. There was a critical need for a secure, mobile solution that allowed real-time collaboration between onboard crew and onshore engineers.

The Opportunity

Kameleya aimed to:

  • Build a video-enabled mobility platform for vessels with poor connectivity environments
  • Allow remote engineers to visually guide troubleshooting without travel
  • Automate service reports and call logs for audit and compliance
  • Reduce wasteful spending on maintenance and logistics

Our Solution

Prologic Technologies designed a two-part solution.

  • A web admin panel to manage users, vessels, logs, and reports.
  • A hybrid mobile app for onboard crew to initiate calls, stream video, and record sessions.
  • We integrated TokBox OpenTok WebRTC API for low-bandwidth, real-time video communication. The platform enabled onshore engineers to remotely supervise repairs while the system automatically generated maintenance reports and video logs. Custom access levels were created for various user roles, and the solution was white-labeled for client branding.

Key Features

  • Live Troubleshooting Broadcasts: Stream and record service tasks in real time
  • User Access Management: Multiple user roles with controlled permissions
  • Service Report Automation: WebRTC-powered consults via TokBox with real-time chat
  • Cross-Platform Communication: App-to-browser video chat from sea to shore
  • Video Call Logs: Detailed call tracking for audits and compliance
  • White-Labeled Deployments: Client-specific branding and configurations
  • Admin Control Center: Centralized dashboard for users, logs, and vessels

Tech Stack

  • Backend: PHP (OOP), MySQL, Apache, Linux
  • Frontend: HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX
  • Video API: TokBox OpenTok (WebRTC)
  • Mobile App: Hybrid Ionic Framework
  • Cloud Hosting: AWS EC2 Servers, S3 Buckets
