Doctorhelpskin is a specialty-specific platform to book online consultation with dermatologists for skin, hair, & nail conditions. It’s as easy as creating a profile, uploading information about your condition, and getting prescriptions within 24 hours.
Potential
The opportunity was to create a full suite telemedicine solution customized for Dermatology patient encounters, with a robust web app (for providers & patients) & user-friendly mobile apps (for patients). Its design and architecture had to be adaptive to meet future requirements. The idea was to keep the UI simple yet optimized for engaging user experience.
Hurdles
Developing a comprehensive telemedicine platform for dermatology came with its own set of challenges. Ensuring HIPAA compliance while maintaining a seamless and engaging user experience required meticulous planning.
The integration of secure video consultations, image uploads, and multi-time zone scheduling had to be optimized for performance and reliability. Additionally, creating a robust yet flexible system that could adapt to evolving medical regulations and user demands posed technical and operational hurdles.
Overcoming these challenges was crucial to delivering a high-quality, scalable solution for both providers and patients.
Approach
Our focus has always been to create a simple yet scalable application to sustain a larger community. Our team came up with a roadmap to have custom workflows specific to the dermatology specialty. The use of a custom HMVC framework prepared the groundwork for extensible and robust web and mobile applications.
Customized admin-defined adaptive questionnaires specific to medical conditions, with the ability for patients to upload images of problem/affected areas, were features that made a difference. Video consultations were implemented using Tokbox OpenTok/Vonage video API, which patients can seamlessly access using any major web browser.
Integration of multi-time zone functionality paved the way for providers to schedule appointments and reminders for patients located in different US time zones.
