The software development life cycle is a process to build or develop software or any digital product. This process comprises six major steps. So, in order to develop a quality & highly usable product, it’s imperative to follow each step in a correct manner.

It usually happens while working on a new project that we find it hard to start the project or correctly define its roadmap. However, by following these six steps, you can easily manage and track your new project significantly.

Planning

Gathering prerequisites is the most pivotal phase of the software development life cycle. It concludes how your product will look and perform towards the end. To develop quality software, make sure to spend enough time on this phase.

During this phase, the project manager or business specialist meets with the client to discuss the product features & specifications. The more data you accumulate, the easier it will be to meet the client’s expectations.

System Analysis

When you are finished with the planning phase, you need to define the timeline & scope of the project. Additionally, this phase lets you categorize functional & non-functional aspects of a project. System Analysis is the way toward grouping real facts, distinguishing flaws, understanding the data design, and overcoming flaws of a project.

Moreover, Software requirement specification (SRS) is prepared. And, by using SRS we can decide the estimated cost. Moreover, it characterizes the functionalities which will be planned and developed further during the project cycle.

System Design

At the point when you have the SRS, it’s an ideal opportunity to proceed onward to stage 3. In this stage, you plan the design of the product. Considering special requirements you can propose one or more designs and report it in a DDS (Design Document Specification).

There are two types of design; high and low-level design. High-level Design is the general programming configuration covering the system framework and database design. Moreover, it assists you with understanding the progression of the system. Though, the low-level plan is the augmentation of HLD. Class outlines, workflows, & DFD’s all go under LLD, and it covers every one of the project’s details.

Coding/Development

This stage expects designers & developers to execute what has been chosen in the past stages. So, they have to construct the code, test,& integrate.

It is the longest period of SDLC on the grounds that all the advancement happens in this stage. The execution in this stage depends upon the development model you decide for your project.

Testing

Testing is the significant period of the product development life cycle. It assists with discovering the bugs and errors of the product.

There are four unique kinds of testing; unit testing, integration testing, acceptance testing, and system testing. The testing team tests each task module and checks if it’s functioning properly.

Deployment and Maintenance

At this stage, the product is all set to be delivered to the market. However, it’s delivered to clients in some cases based on their input essential changes are made.

After the project is delivered effectively in the market, support is carried out for clients. Additionally, the project team updates it on a regular basis to ensure it is applicable to the current market needs.
